If you follow us on Twitter or Instagram then you probably know about the brand new series we are starting on our blog where you guys give us 3 random ingredients and we have to create a dish using those ingredients.
For this recipe we were given the ingredients: beef, pepper and mushroom. These ingredients were submitted by Lav! Be sure to give her a follow, she is one of the most supportive people you will come across.
We wanted to create an easy recipe using beef, pepper and mushroom, so we came up with a delicious vegetarian cheese steak with a special sauce. Yes, its vegetarian but the taste is just as amazing as the real thing!
Heres what you’ll need:
Your favorite buns or sub bread
1 green pepper
1/2 carton white mushrooms
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tbsp honey
Morningstar Vegetarian steak strips
Chili powder (to taste)
Black pepper (to taste)
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 of an onion chopped
1/2 tsp cornstarch
Directions:
Chop your mushroom, green pepper, and onion
Melt 2 tbsp of butter in a skillet on medium/high heat
Sautee all veggies in your skillet for about 3-5 mins or until veggies are fragrant, season with salt and pepper and stir occasionally. Once done place in Morningstar Steak strips and stir.
While steak is cooking, in a small bowl combine soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, corn starch, honey, chili powder and black pepper.
Once steak is mostly cooked its time to add in the sauce and place the top on your skillet letting all the flavor marinate together. Let simmer for 5 mins until sauce is slightly thickened.
While waiting place oven on 325°, slice bun or sub in half, place your cheese of choice and toast your bread in oven until cheese is melted and bread is lightly toasted.
Take out your bread, turn off your meat and serve immediately!
Enjoy!
